| US NATIONAL TOURNAMENT WEEKEND |
May 30, 2010
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The National Tournament weekend kicked off on Friday evening at the Johnny Unitas Stadium at Towson University, host of the 2010 NCAA Championships. Semi final action saw Syracuse vs Maryland (#1) in game 1 and Northwestern (#2) vs North Carolina (#3).
In the first semi-final, tied 3-3 after the first half, Maryland went on to defeat unseeded Syracuse easily 15-5. The second semi was a rematch between North Carolina and Northwestern, where Northwestern saw their only defeat earlier in the season. Northwestern went on to victory and on to attempt to capture it's 6th consecutive championship.
Finals were held on Sunday, in front of another record setting crowd of 10,111. Coming from behind after the first 15 minutes, Maryland fought back ending out the first half at 8-8.
Memorial day weekend is traditionally celebrated by US Lacrosse with all the best coming out to compete. The Nations best high school level players compete on regional teams for their National Championship. Team Canada came together to play for the first time and had some great competition. Competing at a level slightly higher than where you're at - knowing there's work to be done, and committing to getting it done was what the weekend was all about.
Over the five games played, the team played to a 2-3 record. The games were fast, the teams were skilled, and Team Canada players were learning new systems and playing together as team. All in all, a great learning experience for the Squad.
