Identification Process

NOTICE TO LACROSSE COACHES

From: Joanne Stanga, Director, Women's National Team Programs
Canadian Lacrosse Association
Re: Canadian U19 Player Identification
Date: June 24, 2009

In 2011, Canada will send its U19 Women's National Team to the FIL World Championship in Hannover, Germany.  The process for selecting the team begins this summer.

The main objective is to assemble the very best talent in the country in this age group (14-17) from which to select the squad.  A very important part of this is making sure all our top athletes are made aware of the opportunity, and encouraged to participate at the upcoming Selection Camp.  This is where your knowledge of your players will greatly benefit the program.  If you have an athlete(s) that you are coaching or have coached who you feel have the qualities to perform at a National U19 level, we would like to hear from you.   Please complete a Player Identification Form to nominate them for the National Team Selection process.

Athletes who have been identified by you will be put on a master player identification list, and will receive an invite to the 2009 Canadian U19 Selection Camp with the complete details.  Players that have not been identified run the risk of not being invited to the selection camp, so it is imperative that coaches are attentive to completing these forms for their athletes.

When and where are the Selection Camps?
     - Eastern Selection Camp - August 15-16 (Peterborough, Ontario)
     - Western Selection Camp - September 12-13 (Surrey or Burnaby, BC)

What are the eligibility requirements?
1. In accordance with the current International policy, “to be eligible for a World U19 Event, competitors must be under 19 years of age as of August 31 in the year prior to the event”.  This means that players must be 18 or under on August 31, 2010.

2. To be eligible to represent Canada on a Women’s National Team under the governance of the CLA, an athlete must:
     - hold a valid Canadian passport or landed immigrant status.
     - be registered with a Provincial Member Association (PMA) of the CLA

What is the deadline for submitting the Player Identification Forms?
     - July 17

How will players be contacted and receive details about the Selection Camp?
a) Every nominated player will be contacted by letter/email with complete program details followed up by a telephone call from a National Team representative to answer questions, encourage their participation and get their commitment to attend the selection camp.

b) All players will be contacted by July 31.
